INFORMATION FOR OBSERVERS IN THE FIELD

intro history map of area feeder/yard watcher field observer previous year results

Thanks for your interest in participating in the Buffalo Bayou Christmas Bird Count (CBC).  Those of you who wish to participate as field observers will need to get assigned to an Area.  Please click here to see a map of the count circle Areas. To open a Google Earth image of the count circle, click here

Please contact the Area Leader for the Area in which you would like to count.  Generally, observers for these areas meet at approximately 7:00 a.m. -- the Area Leader will inform you of the exact meeting time and location (and also about the Countdown Dinner at the end of the day).  Those who are not assigned to an area in advance can meet at 6:00 a.m. at the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center, 4501 Woodway, just east of West Loop 610.  (In other words, you get to sleep later if you make arrangements in advance.)  There is a $5 fee for participants in the field to help defray National Audubon Society's data processing and publishing costs.  (To encourage young people to become involved, the National Audubon Society waives the $5 fee for those 18 years old or younger.)

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT DURING THE WINTER HOLIDAY SEASON, PEOPLE MAY BE TRAVELING AND THUS MAY NOT BE ABLE TO RESPOND TO YOU IMMEDIATELY.  Thank you for your patience.

If our manpower is unevenly distributed, we may ask you to consider switching to another area that may be undermanned.
