Home School Programs
These classes have been developed and will be taught exclusively for home school students. Each class will begin with 30-45 minutes of instructional time, followed by a 45 to 55 minute nature walk. This program will provide learning in an outdoor classroom (weather permitting), a guided nature walk, and a hands-on activity.
There are two registration options for scheduling a home school program:
1) INDIVIDUAL or 2) PRIVATE GROUP

Cost: Members - $15 per student; Non-members - $25 per student

$10/person per class for parents and siblings 4 yrs.and under that attend class.

Leapin' Lizards
What do skinks, anoles and geckos have in common? They are different kinds of lizards that all live at the Arboretum. Explore how lizards use camouflage to catch moving prey and hide from predators, while living a day in the life of a lizard. |

Turtle Time
Turtles live fascinating lives. Learn how these prehistoric organisms have adapted to living in water or on land. Students will examine the physical characteristics of turtles and learn how they have survived millions of years. |

Sensational Snakes
Snakes do not have legs, arms, nails or claws so how do they get around, find food, or defend themselves? Students will explore the answers to all these questions with fun hands-on activities. |

Slimy Salamanders
Learn about the secretive life of our friend the salamander. Discover where and how these elusive creatures spend their lives. |

Fabulous Frogs
Come and learn all about frogs and toads. We will learn frog calls and imitate them by using everyday objects and learn about their habitat needs by creating take home habitats for tadpoles. |

PRIVATE GROUP REGISTRATION
Schedule a program exclusively for your group of 10 or more (ages 5-12) on the day of your choosing. Cost: $20 per student; Minimum student registration: 10
Groups of less than 10 are allowed, however minimum charge for private group class is $200.
Private Groups can choose from the following program options:
Explore & More - Explore the three habitats within the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center: pond, forest and meadow. Students will learn about ecosystems, food chains and the plants and animals within each habitat.
Pond Dipping - Learn what lives in and around the pond. Students will use pond dipping nets to collect invertebrates, fish and tadpoles to learn about food chains and organisms of the pond habitat.
Log Hotel - Learn what lives in and under a rotting log. Students will learn about nature's recyclers by rolling over logs to learn about decomposition and the organisms that make their habitat in a rotting log.
