Discovery Days

Join us for a morning of nature discovery! We’ll explore each theme in-depth during an interpretive hike along our trails, a close-up look at the wildlife and habitats of the Arboretum in our Discovery Room, and adventure play in our brand-new Nature Playscape!

Tuesdays, June 8 – Aug 10

9:30 – 11:30 am

$15 (per class)

Ages 5 – 12

A Habitat is a Home

June 8 or July 13

Learn how and where living things meet their needs. Children will explore woodland, savanna, prairie, or wetland habitats to learn how organisms survive in their environment.

Creature Features

June 15 or July 20

Discover adaptations that help organisms survive. While exploring the Arboretum’s habitats, students will identify and compare adaptive characteristics of organisms.

Nature’s Recyclers

June 22 or July 27

Investigate how nature recycles nutrients through the process of decomposition. Children will explore rotting logs and the forest floor to learn about the organisms that work on the decomposer team.

Eco Explorers

June 29 or Aug 3

Identify ways that organisms live and survive in their ecosystem by interacting with the living and non-living elements. Cross woodland, savanna, prairie, and wetland habitats to compare physical characteristics and how they support biological communities.

Pleased to Eat You!

July 6 or Aug 10

Search for links in food chains by exploring habitats and the organisms that call the Arboretum home. Discover what local animals eat and how to classify them as herbivore, carnivore, or omnivore.
