Who’s that fluttering through the evening sky? I Who’s that fluttering through the evening sky? Is it a bat or a bird? You can probably see in this still photo that it’s a feathery Chimney Swift, a high-flying, insect-eating bird, but if you’re walking around in twilight it can be hard to tell. Our tip is to watch the wings: bats never stop flapping, while birds will take a moment to rest their wings and glide every so often. Come look for swifts and bats at Going Batty this Friday at 6:30 PM to learn more about our amazing nocturnal neighbors!

There are SO MANY HUMMINGBIRDS at the Arboretum th There are SO MANY HUMMINGBIRDS at the Arboretum this week that we’ve had to add a little extra protection! Hummingbirds are very aggressive and unfortunately they sometimes chase each other straight into windows, even ones with bird safe glass like those at the Arboretum. We’ve put up stickers to help the hummingbirds see the windows in time to avoid crashing. If you have bird collision problems, try putting lots of stickers or paint markings on the OUTSIDE of the window like we have. #BeakOfTheWeek #WildlifeWednesday
