Birdwatching can be frustrating at the Arboretum thanks to our tall trees and dense bushes – you just can’t see the birds! It’s much easier to bird by ear, identifying birds by their songs and calls. In this class we’ll go over the basics of birding by ear and work through the songs and calls of our “Big Three” Arboretum birds: Northern Cardinal, Carolina Wren, and Tufted Titmouse. We’ll listen to tons of recordings to explore the variation within each species. Then we’ll go on a bird walk to practice our ID skills.

Notes: Wear walking shoes and dress for the weather. Binoculars will be available to borrow.
