In this class we will discuss repeating patterns in nature and the math behind them (but don’t worry – you don’t need to be a math whiz to follow the discussion). In this hands-on class\, we’ll collect water samples and view them under our video microscopes to go on a miniature safari. A mushroom is just the visible tip of the fungal iceberg – these organisms are actually a vast network of filaments\, always searching for new interactions. In this class\, we’ll focus on some of our local fungi and their complex relationships with plants\, insects\, and humans. We’ll learn how some fungi form “social networks” with plants and help them gather nutrients\, while others are plant parasites. We’ll even explore the ways that fungi can trick insects into doing their bidding! \n\n\n\nThe class will be recorded\, and the video will be sent out after the class.
