Please check back for updates.7:00 am – 7:30 pm \n\n\n\nGoats from GoatScaping LLC will be at the Arboretum this August clearing out invasive and aggressive native understory brush and vegetation to allow for increased biodiversity! This year\, the goats will be working on a 7 acre area in the northwest corner of the Arboretum between the 610 Parking Loop\, the Ravine Trail\, and the Event Lawn. Read below for some helpful tips for viewing the goats at work! \n\n\n\nAre you an Arboretum Member? If so\, join us on Friday\, August 7 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm for a fun\, free Members-only Meet the Mowers event! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n2026 Goat visit map\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGoat Viewing Tips\n\n\n\n\nPark at either entrance and follow the yellow arrows along the trails directing you from the Nature Center to the goats’ current location. You can also look at the Goat Visit Map to plan your walk.\n\n\n\nStay on sidewalks and trails.\n\n\n\nKeep children and dogs away from the fence – it is electrified to keep predators like coyotes out of the area.\n\n\n\nDo not try to feed or pet the goats. They are helping us clear species like poison ivy\, and the oils can get on your skin.\n\n\n\nTake lots of photos – if you post them on social media\, tag @houstonarboretum so we can see them!

Join us on the second Saturday of each month in front of the Nature Center building for a two-hour bird survey led by Arboretum staff members Kelsey Low and Theo Ostler. We welcome all levels of bird watching skill and all ages (as long as you’re quiet) – but no dogs\, please!  \n\n\n\nIf you have binoculars of your own\, please bring them. We have a limited number of binoculars available to borrow

DESCRIPTION:$37 member / $52 nonmemberInstructor: Dr. Cassidy Johnson Ages 21+ \n\n\n\nHop on over for a wet\, wild night! Enjoy refreshments (frog-themed snacks\, coffee\, and Saint Arnold Brewing Company beer) while you learn all about the strange and wonderful world of frogs\, from their croaking courtship to their mysterious metamorphosis. Weather permitting\, we’ll also go for a hike to search for frogs and other nocturnal creatures. \n\n\n\nPlease dress for the weather and wear walking shoes. \n\n\n\n\nregister online\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInstructor bio: Dr. Cassidy Johnson has a B.S. and M.S. in Biology at Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry & Cell Biology from Rice University. She loves teaching biology and is currently an Assistant Teaching Professor for Rice BioSciences. She fell in love with local amphibians while working for the Houston toad ex situ conservation program at the Houston Zoo. She is also passionate about the protection and restoration of Texas prairies and is on the board of the Native Prairie Association of Texas and was previously the president of the Coastal Prairie Partnership.

We are looking to grow our team of Arboretum Docents and would like to invite you to learn more at this informational breakfast. Docents are volunteers who are specially trained to engage visitors of all ages and backgrounds in active explorations of our trails and Discovery Room. We are currently recruiting individuals for our upcoming docent trainings to prepare for fall programs! \n\n\n\n\nRSVP Online\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nConcerned that you know very little about natural history\, native flora/fauna\, or the Arboretum in general? Not to worry! Docent training is comprehensive and includes extensive content-based classes as well as training on effective touring techniques. \n\n\n\nIf you are interested in helping us teach our visitors about nature and all it has to offer\, we encourage you to attend!
