Learn how to support your Hatchlings as they develop motor skills\, test physical limits\, captivate their sense of wonder\, and get messy in a safe place to try new things.   \n\n\n\nHatchlings will engage in outdoor nature play in this unique opportunity to interact\, explore\, and bond with their caregivers in the natural world. This program will be held outdoors and will include loose parts and messy play with natural sensory elements such as sand\, mud\, grass\, sticks\, leaves\, and water.   \n\n\n\nSpace is limited and pre-registration is required for all Hatchlings classes. \n\n\n\nSelect Wednesdays from 10:00 am – 11:00 am. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArboretum Member registration for Spring 2026 classes opens Thursday\, December 4 Nonmember registration opens Thursday\, December 11. Become a Family Tree Member or above to access early registration and receive the Member rate. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPricing\n\n\n\n$12 member / $15 nonmember Per child\, per classMore than one caregiver may accompany a registered child. DESCRIPTION:For children 18 months – 4 years\n\n\n\n\n\nEncourage your child’s curiosity about nature and spend time with them exploring outdoors! Children with an adult companion can join a naturalist for a story reading\, a simple nature or sensory development activity\, and a stroller-friendly hike on the beautiful Arboretum trails. Arrive dressed in close-toed shoes and comfortable play clothes. Be prepared for the weather including hat\, sunscreen\, jackets\, raincoat\, or rain boots\, as needed. \n\n\n\nSelect Mondays9:30 am-10:15 am10:30 am-11:15 am \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\npricing\n\n\n\nFree for Family Tree Members and above (please have member card on hand)$7 per child for nonmembers\, pay at the door (18 months and up; younger siblings welcome) \n\n\n\nNo registration necessary\, however admittance will be limited to 20 children per session. Registration will be held in front of Beautyberry Classroom. Doors will close 15 minutes after starting class or when the sign up is full. Parents and siblings are welcome to explore the Arboretum grounds on their own. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSummer Children’s Program registration will open Tuesday\, February 3\, 2026 for Arboretum Members. Nonmember registration will open Tuesday\, February 10\, 2026. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA Habitat is a Home\n\n\n\nLearn how and where living things meet their needs. Students will go for a scavenger hunt through the woodland\, savanna\, prairie\, or wetland habitats to learn how organisms survive in their environment. \n\n\n\n\nJune 2\n\n\n\nJuly 7\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCreature Features\n\n\n\nDiscover adaptations that help organisms survive. While exploring the Arboretum’s habitats\, students will identify and compare adaptive characteristics of organisms. Students will also practice sweep netting for insects to observe more closely. \n\n\n\n\nJune 9\n\n\n\nJuly 14\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNature’s Recyclers\n\n\n\nInvestigate how nature recycles nutrients through the process of decomposition. On our hike\, students will search for decomposers hiding under rotting logs or in the leaf litter on the forest floor. \n\n\n\n\nJune 16\n\n\n\nJuly 21\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPleased to Eat You!\n\n\n\nSearch for links in food chains by investigating who is living in the Arboretum’s ponds. Discover what local animals eat and how to classify them as herbivore\, carnivore\, or omnivore while pond dipping for aquatic creatures. \n\n\n\n\nJune 23\n\n\n\nJuly 28\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEco Explorers\n\n\n\nIdentify the ways that organisms live and survive in their ecosystem by interacting with the living and non-living elements. Practice your nature journaling skills while comparing the physical characteristics of woodland\, savanna\, prairie\, and wetland habitats to determine how they support biological communities. \n\n\n\n\nJune 30\n\n\n\naugust 4
