DESCRIPTION:Saturday & Sunday\, August 17 & 1810:00 am–2:30 pmFree\, no registration requiredAges 16+ \n\n\n\nJoin us for an open house at the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center to meet Staff and learn more about how you can get involved as an Arboretum Volunteer. \n\n\n\nAs a non-profit\, we rely not only on our members and class participants but also our wonderful group of dedicated Volunteers. We have room for you to join the team this fall to help us succeed in our mission to provide nature education and maintain our 155 acres of native Houston habitat. \n\n\n\nOpportunities are 16+ and include both indoor and outdoor activities\, seven days a week. All Volunteers receive an orientation\, training\, and continued education from our amazing staff. \n\n\n\nLearn more about these volunteer opportunities\n\n\n\n\nSchool Tour Docent – Lead school children on curriculum-based hikes on our nature trails to teach about and show off the natural world around them.\n\n\n\nDiscovery Room Assistant – Help us to maintain our displays and interact with visitors in our wonderful indoor learning space\, The Discovery Room!\n\n\n\nGarden & Ecological Landscaping – The spaces around our education campus and parking loops are filled with native gardens. Help our team to keep our grounds beautiful and full of pollinators and resources for our insects and animals.\n\n\n\nTrail Crew – Head outdoors and help our Conservation team to maintain our 5 miles of trails and keep our space safe for visitors and healthy for our wildlife.\n\n\n\nSpecial Events – Fall festivals\, Sip & Strolls\, Pup Crawls\, and more! We have many events and fundraisers throughout the year that are both fun and important volunteer opportunities for all Volunteers.\n\n\n\n\nThis is a come and go event. If you are interested in helping us teach our visitors about nature and all it has to offer\, we encourage you to attend!

DESCRIPTION:In-person \n\n\n\nFREE\, no registration necessary \n\n\n\nAll Ages \n\n\n\nConservation is a large part of the Arboretum’s mission to maintain our wonderful 155 acres of native Houston habitats. Bring your family for a day of hands-on\, dirt-digging fun. This is an open house\, come and go\, event. We will have Naturalists and Conservationists on site providing instruction and answering all of your questions. \n\n\n\nThe event will be spread out on the Arboretum grounds to highlight our native habitats and the conservation efforts that go into making our trails safe for plants\, animals\, and humans! Each one of our interpretive Field Stations will be a location to ask questions\, learn\, and participate in activities. \n\n\n\nJoin us at the: \n\n\n\nNature Center – learn more about the event and the Houston ArboretumWetland Field Station – learn about our freshwater creatures and test our water qualityWoodland Field Station – learn how to identify invasive species and help us remove PrivetPrairie Field Station – learn to be a Conservationist and Naturalist from home and collect dataSavanna Field Station – learn about succession and species diversity while seeding the savannaRavine Field Station – learn to be an environmental steward on a Staff-guided hike in the shade\n\n\n\n**See the Arboretum Map for Field Station\, restroom\, and building locations** \n\n\n\nPlease dress for working outside – a hat\, sunglasses\, water bottle\, sunscreen\, and boots/closed-toed shoes are recommended.
