Please dress for the weather. \n\n\n\nInstructor bio: Lawson Taylor is the Forest Ecologist for the Houston Arboretum. He manages the wooded areas of the Arboretum using ecological theories and concepts to maintain a healthy and functional forest ecosystem. A BioBlitz is like a natural scavenger hunt: we will try to observe as many species of plants\, animals\, and fungi as we can in three hours. And because we have over 2\,000 species to find\, we need your help! Just download the free iNaturalist app and come to the Arboretum to make observations. We’ll have information booths to help you get started with the app\, and our staff will be on hand to help you identify the critters you spot on the trails. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe strongly recommend bringing a mask to wear if you want to chat with Arboretum staff and volunteers. Masks are required when entering the Nature Center building.

Bring your family for a day of hands-on\, dirt-digging fun. This is an open house\, come and go\, event. We will have Naturalists and Conservationists on site providing instruction and answering all of your questions. \n\n\n\nThe event will be spread out on the Arboretum grounds to highlight our native habitats and the conservation efforts that go into making our trails safe for plants\, animals\, and humans! Each one of our interpretive Field Stations will be a location to ask questions\, learn\, and participate in activities. \n\n\n\nJoin us at the: \n\n\n\nNature Center – learn more about the event and the Houston ArboretumWetland Field Station – learn about our freshwater creatures and test our water qualityWoodland Field Station – learn how to identify invasive species and help us remove PrivetPrairie Field Station – learn to be a Conservationist and Naturalist from home and collect dataSavanna Field Station – learn about succession and species diversity while seeding the savannaRavine Field Station – learn to be an environmental steward on a Staff-guided hike in the shade\n\n\n\n**See the Arboretum Map for Field Station\, restroom\, and building locations** \n\n\n\nPlease dress for working outside – a hat\, sunglasses\, water bottle\, sunscreen\, and boots/closed-toed shoes are recommended.

Like DIY crafts? Check out our upcoming Eco-printing Two Ways! \n\n\n\n\n\n\nMake a beautiful piece of functional art for your home or garden! We’ll give you everything you need to make a mosaic flower pot\, including the pot\, decorative tiles\, glue\, and grout. Then you’ll join us online for two class sessions to make your art. In the first session we’ll plan our designs\, apply tiles to our pots\, and then let them dry overnight. In the second session we’ll apply grout and talk about how to use these techniques for other projects. \n\n\n\nWe STRONGLY recommend doing the second class session outdoors\, or at least with plenty of protection on your workspace to avoid mess.
