SUMMARY:Family Conservation Day
DESCRIPTION:In-person \n\n\n\nFREE\, no registration necessary \n\n\n\nAll Ages \n\n\n\nConservation is a large part of the Arboretum’s mission to maintain our wonderful 155 acres of native Houston habitats. Bring your family for a day of hands-on\, dirt-digging fun. This is an open house\, come and go\, event. We will have Naturalists and Conservationists on site providing instruction and answering all of your questions. \n\n\n\nThe event will be spread out on the Arboretum grounds to highlight our native habitats and the conservation efforts that go into making our trails safe for plants\, animals\, and humans! Each one of our interpretive Field Stations will be a location to ask questions\, learn\, and participate in activities. \n\n\n\nJoin us at the: \n\n\n\nNature Center – learn more about the event and the Houston ArboretumWetland Field Station – learn about our freshwater creatures and test our water qualityWoodland Field Station – learn how to identify invasive species and help us remove PrivetPrairie Field Station – learn to be a Conservationist and Naturalist from home and collect dataSavanna Field Station – learn about succession and species diversity while seeding the savannaRavine Field Station – learn to be an environmental steward on a Staff-guided hike in the shade\n\n\n\n**See the Arboretum Map for Field Station\, restroom\, and building locations** \n\n\n\nPlease dress for working outside – a hat\, sunglasses\, water bottle\, sunscreen\, and boots/closed-toed shoes are recommended.

Parking is available at both the 610 Entrance and the Woodway Entrance.Parking is free for all guests attending the gala. We will have security onsite\, but please do not leave valuables in your car. Bags may be checked at the Nature Center.You may leave your vehicle overnight\, however the Arboretum is not responsible for any damage to your vehicle. Gates are open from 7 am – dusk.\n\n\n\nAttire \n\n\n\nThis event will be held outdoors – we suggest you dress comfortably with the evening’s weather in mind.Your evening will include a leisurely walk along the trails – high heels are not recommended.This event is rain or shine.\n\n\n\nDietary Accommodations \n\n\n\nCotton Culinary will provide vegetarian options upon request.Other dietary requests will be accommodated to the best of their ability.\n\n\n\nCancellation Policy \n\n\n\nIf the gala is cancelled due to City of Houston requirements\, donors may opt into an at-home experience that will include a basket of wine and offerings from Cotton Culinary and other Arboretum partners.If you or your guests do not attend the event\, your donation will be considered fully tax-deductible.The Arboretum can not offer refunds or credits for future galas at this time.

DESCRIPTION:Family Program \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn Person  \n\n\n\nTwo Time Slots: 9:30 – 10:30 am and 11:30 am – 12:30 pm$30 member/$50 non-member (per pair of paddlers\, no singles\, each child must be accompanied by adult) Instructor: Tiffany Ritter Ages 5 & up (no exceptions\, must be able to hold paddle on their own and fit into our PFDs)  \n\n\nThis class has SOLD OUT. Check out our next family class Global Big Day for Families! \n\n\n\n\n\n\nCome out and learn the basics of kayaking\, paddling\, and general water safety with our Naturalists. You and your child will love exploring our 1-acre pond while having up-close encounters with turtles and fish!  \n\n\n\nClasses meet at the South Meadow Deck. Please plan for a 15 minute walk to get to the pond.  \n\n\n\nThe rain date for this class is May 1.
