Calling all nature-loving songwriters! Spend the first Wednesday of every month finding interesting insects and sharing your songs. Houston Grand Opera brings life to the words of Jorge Argueta’s “Agua, Agüita (Water, Little Water) & Fuego, Fueguito (Fire, Little Fire). Join us for this inaugural series of classes that will take you step-by-step through the process of planning, planting, and maintaining a backyard wildlife habitat that meets National Wildlife Federation certification standards. Bring your favorite furry friend to the best pup crawl around! Enjoy four beer stops, local pet vendors, and more! Bring a friend or partner, grab a beer, and get ready for a fun night of games and activities inspired by real animal courtship. Join us on the second Saturday of each month in the courtyard behind the building for a two-hour bird survey led by Arboretum staff members. In this hands-on class we’ll learn why native plants are important, some good species to start with, and how to begin gardening with natives. The Houston Arboretum is partnering with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center to host regular blood drives at the Arboretum! Join us one Sunday of each month for a grounding yoga practice surrounded by the beautiful sounds and sights of nature! Become a hero to native wildlife by improving their habitats. In this program, children will realize the importance of protecting Arboretum habitats by helping us clean the trails, learning about local animals, and finding out how to create a healthy habitat in their own backyard. Each child will make a squirrel feeder and toad adobe to take home! At the Spring Plant Sale you can find a variety of native plants including grasses, flowers, shrubs, and trees - perfect for attracting butterflies, bees, and other pollinators to your yard or garden. Learn how to make a surprisingly savory honey grilled cheese sandwich and mint-infused honey lemonade in this fun, relaxed cooking class. Join us for this inaugural series of classes that will take you step-by-step through the process of planning, planting, and maintaining a backyard wildlife habitat that meets National Wildlife Federation certification standards. You are cordially invited to attend the Queen’s Wonderland Tea Party! Enjoy creating your own tea blend from our selection of native varieties
