Hatchlings

Event Series Event Series (See All)

September 11 from 10:00 am 11:00 am

For children 0 – 24 months

Babies in nature? Babies ARE nature! Babies who spend time outside are stronger, healthier, more confident, and better sleepers. Learn how to support your Hatchlings as they develop motor skills, test physical limits, captivate their sense of wonder, and get messy in a safe place to try new things.

Hatchlings will engage in outdoor nature play in this unique opportunity to interact, explore, and bond with their caregivers in the natural world. This program will be held outdoors and will include loose parts and messy play with natural sensory elements such as sand, mud, grass, sticks, leaves, and water.

Hatchlings classes are best for infants and toddlers who are creepers, crawlers, or new walkers up to 24 months old (not for older siblings), but even newborns benefit from outdoor sensory experiences. Please do not bring older siblings to class.

Select Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 10:00 am – 11:00 am.

Arboretum Member registration opens Tuesday, August 6. Nonmember registration opens Tuesday, August 13. Become a Family Tree Member or above to access early registration and receive the Member rate.

Additional Information

Hatchlings will be held in various locations outdoors rain or shine and may include a short hike to different areas of the Arboretum. Please dress yourself and your Hatchling for the weather. Sun hats and lightweight muslin fabric help shield Hatchlings too young for sunscreen. Blankets that can get dirty are highly recommended for younger infants just beginning to observe their world.

Accessibility

This program is open to all abilities. Some areas we will visit are not stroller-friendly or wheelchair accessible. Please plan to carry your Hatchling to various locations and let us know if you need assistance with caregiver accessibility.

The Arboretum is currently CLOSED due to the continuing power outage caused by Hurricane Beryl. All classes and events on Monday, July 15 and Tuesday, July 16 have been cancelled or postponed. Please check back for updates.
