Upcoming Classes

Mushroomology (Mycology)
December 2, 9, 16

Mycologists are scientists who devote their lives to studying fungi. Fungi are strange and colorful and likely responsible for life as we know it on this planet. As decomposers, fungi are found almost everywhere on earth, and this month we will search for mushrooms, grow mold, and observe the important role fungi play in nature.

Rockology (Geology)
January 6, 13, 27

Geologists love to talk rocks! Geology is the study of how time and pressure shape the earth. Rocks, crystals, and sediment are shuffled around this planet, and geologists are the ones who study these things. We will all become geologists this month as we unearth the knowledge hidden in the stones and earth around us.

Dino-ology (Paleontology)
February 3, 10, 24

Texas was once a shallow sea! Come unearth the past this month as we explore the surprising natural history of our city. Learn about the prehistoric residents (dinosaurs and more!) of our state, piecing together clues to understand the past. We’ll even dabble in some archeology at the end of the month and learn about the more recent history of Houston.

Plantology (Botany)
March 3, 17, 24

Any botanist will tell you that plants are truly the best. They oxygenate the planet, produce food, provide shelter, and much more! Come explore the vast world of plants with us this month as our studies go from the smallest moss to the tallest tree. We will even devote some time to being tree scientists (dendrologists)!

Animology (Mammalogy)
April 7, 14, 28

Mammalogists are scientists we can relate to, being mammals ourselves. What do mice and whales have in common? They are mammals! Come learn more about this diverse and fascinating group of creatures while we get to know some of the mammals who live right here in Texas. Discover the characteristics of mammals, examine skulls, and see just what adaptations help mammals survive.

Sea-ology (Oceanography)
May 5, 12, 19

Oceanographers might ask you to imagine if we changed the name “Earth” to “Ocean”. This would make sense if you considered that most of our planet is covered with vast, deep oceans. There is always an element of mystery studying the ocean because each ocean voyage yields new discoveries and insights. Dive in with us this month as we explore this fascinating frontier!
