August is a great month to start thinking about Liatris! The meadow at the Arboretum in August is a spectacular array of deep purples and lovely greens. The Liatris, a native Texas flower, will begin to bloom in August and show its lovely blossoms through the month.

Spring may seem far away right now, but for raptors like Red-tailed Hawks, it’s right around the corner! Big birds of prey take a long time to pair up, build a nest, and raise their (big, hungry) chicks, so they need to start early. Our resident Red-tailed Hawks are already patrolling for likely nest sites and chasing away intruders. Keep an eye out for these majestic soaring birds over the savanna and Meadow. #BeakOfTheWeek #WildlifeWednesday

If you're still figuring out your winter break plans, you're in luck - we have space available for 7-12 year olds in BOTH of our upcoming Winter Mini Camps! Your child can become a Junior Naturalist December 26-27, go on a Jurassic Journey January 2-3, or join us for both exciting Mini Camps.

Space is limited. Make sure to sign up before registration closes for our first session on Monday, December 23.
