Bring the whole family to the Houston Arboretum for free, themed scavenger hunts! Each month features a themed self-guided scavenger hunt where families can join us at our Nature Center before heading out to the trails to sharpen their observation skills and learn something new about nature. From spiders to fall foliage, every adventure is different!
Please come prepared for the outdoors (closed toe shoes recommended, bring a water bottle, bug spray, etc).
Signs of Life
September 6
We may not always see animals out and about, so how do we know they are here? They leave traces of themselves behind! From scat, to tracks, learn how to find the signs of life here at the Arboretum.
Amazing Arachnids

Spiders are so much more than Halloween decorations. They fill the role of pest control specialist in our ecosystem. Want to learn more about these amazing arachnids? Then get into the Halloween spirit by learning more about spiders.
Fall Foliage
November 7
Although Houston is not known for its fall colors, there are still lots to learn about leaves! From deciduous to evergreen, here at the Arboretum we see leaves on the ground as well as in the trees all winter long. Join us and learn more about the difference between the two and why leaves are important in the fall.
Animal Homes

There is no central heating outdoors, so where do the animals go when they get cold? To their homes, of course! Burrows, leaves, nests, and so much more. Find out all the different types of animal homes and who lives in what.
