This week we’re welcoming the Northern Parula, a p This week we’re welcoming the Northern Parula, a pioneer of spring migration! This bird is tiny even for a warbler, and to make it even harder to spot it prefers to sit at the very top of tall trees. However, its loud song gives it away: a rapid, buzzy trill that rises in a joyful crescendo until it abruptly stops, as if the bird is a little embarrassed by its enthusiasm. Unlike most of the warblers that are passing through on spring migration, many Northern Parulas remain in the Houston region to nest. They weave their homes from strands of Spanish Moss deep in swamps or in mature bayou woodlands. Keep an ear out for these little treasures around the Lily Pond and on the Inner Loop. #BeakOfTheWeek #WildlifeWednesday
