Thank you all for joining us during Earth Month! We did so many fun things and saw such great responses from all of you. Keep posting those photos of your backyard wildlife sanctuaries, recycled arts and crafts, and nature art and writing. Also, keep making observations during these last few days of the City Nature Challenge.
Just because April is almost over doesn’t mean that you have to stop helping the Earth. There are tons of great environmentally-friendly things for you to do all year. Here are some ideas to get you started:
- May: Support birds on World Migratory Bird Day and Global Big Day by joining the Arboretum and Houston Audubon for a virtual celebration of birds
- June: Enjoy parks, sanctuaries, and other outdoor spaces on National Trails Day
- July: Commit to Plastic-free July
- August: Don’t buy new stuff to throw away – reuse by celebrating National Thrift Shop Day
- September: Help our beaches on International Coastal Cleanup Day
- October: Learn how you can help bats on the first or third Friday of the month at the Waugh Bridge during Bat Awareness Month
- November: November 15 is America Recycles Day, so bring your old electronics to recycle at places like the Houston Zoo
- December: Become an Arboretum Volunteer or volunteer at your favorite environmental organization on International Volunteer Day
