The mild Houston winter is upon us, and that means daytime temperatures in the low 60’s and sunny skies. A perfect time for you and your group to volunteer at the Houston Arboretum! There is always something needing to be done here as we get ready for springtime, and prepare to implement our new Master Plan with the goal of improving the grounds and ecological health of the habitat.
Nature Needs You!
We welcome individual and group volunteers. Our individual volunteer opportunities include administrative/clerical, conservation projects, education programs, groups and special programs. Training can be done on-the-job for some volunteer positions, while others might require attending a training session and “shadowing” by a staff member or experienced volunteer. Our group opportunities consist of fun team-building exercises and group service projects for groups of all types and sizes. We welcome volunteer groups from corporations, universities, high schools, congregations, and many other community organizations. We can accommodate groups on weekdays or Saturday mornings, and each project is staff supervised with on-the-job training. Last week, we had an enthusiastic group from Marketing Refresh here in Houston. They put in a good half-day’s work and had a great time helping and learning about our mission. As the first project of 2016 for their “Community Refresh” effort, they report having had a wonderful time and a valuable team-building experience. If your group would like to volunteer at the Houston Arboretum, visit our Group Volunteers page for more information.
